Ballooning - Scott 2032-2035 Block, Albuquerque, 1983

A block of four 20-cent Ballooning stamps issued March 31, 1983, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, for the bicentennial of manned flight. David Meltzer's two vertical designs show the Union Army observation balloon Intrepid and the stratospheric Explorer II; the two horizontal stamps form a combined scene of modern sport hot-air balloons. The blue GAMM cachet, also signed H. E. Reinhold, places three line-drawn balloons inside a star border.
